Client Spotlight: A Morning in the Microbakery with Carolyn Bower

When I stepped into Carolyn Bower’s home microbakery, I knew right away this was going to be special. Carolyn is the heart behind The Breadwinner Podcast and Coaching, where she helps new and growing sourdough bakers run profitable microbakeries without losing the love for their craft — and she’s also the baker behind Bluebird Bread Co., where locals order fresh bread for porch pickups and market days.

For her branding session, we wanted to show exactly what makes her business so inviting. We did two outfit changes that tied in her brand colors, added a few wildflowers she loves, and worked right next to her family kitchen—capturing the real, everyday feel of her work.

Watching Carolyn bake was a treat. Between prepping dough and shaping loaves, she also spent time planning coaching sessions, checking recipes, and recording pieces for her podcast. I got to see the full scope of what she does, and yes—I went home with warm bread straight from her oven.

This shoot wasn’t just about pretty pictures. It was about capturing this stage of her story. Carolyn may always bake from home, but soon, many of her loaves will come from a small-town bakery she has her eyes on—turning her homegrown business into a destination for bread lovers.

For small business owners like Carolyn, these photos do a lot of work:

  • They show people the real process behind the brand.

  • They build trust by letting customers see the person behind the product and the coach behind the advice.

  • They give her fresh content for her website, podcast promotions, and social posts.

If you’re wondering what a brand session could look like for your own business—whether it’s in your kitchen, studio, or storefront—Carolyn’s story is a great example of how thoughtful images can grow with you.
